Hogares Luz y Vida was founded in 1990 by Sister Valeriana. The home now has 100 children fully residential and others who come for day care. There are outreach centres offering refuge and advice to children and parents and a school for all the children regardless of their limitations. |
The residential children are mostly seriously disabled or terminally ill, most of them require special attention and all the children enjoy a loving, homely atmosphere. There are children who have suffered birth defects, burns, violence, malnutrition, sexual abuse, and some have Downs syndrome, cerebral palsy, chronic hepatitis B, paraplegia, cancer, some are blind and there are two cases of epidermiolosis ampollosa. |
Luz y Vida also has a medical and dental surgery, a large kitchen and laundry to cope with all the children’s needs. A large number of personnel are required to care for these very dependent children, many of whom have little likelihood of being adopted or entering the normal world, they face the probability of remaining in the home all their lives. |
